It seems that to exist authentically it takes feeling strongly about something and initiating yourself to the fire of self-discovery. It began for me with answering to the subtle push toward the adventures in art.
Growing up at the shore I had what was for me the single most inspiring teacher one could ask for in nature. I have found there is an understanding near the ocean about how nature works its rhythm into our lives, and if we dive in every chance we get, it will reward us with simple truths and exhilarating rides that we can make our own way in. If in cooperation with the wave, we'll ride to the very end and begin back at that initial impulse, back to the next wave, back into natures rhythm and our own willingness to play.
I am a self-taught Artist. It has always felt oddly familiar and prodigious to go deep inside for what I need and most answers come from finding my own questions about the process and allowing the expression that comes from that. So therefore, art for me is a matter of intention... I have found that if you make up a strong reason why you are doing anything it will feed your passion and fuel your life.
Monica Zane moved to New York City to pursue a career in the Arts. She began with a two-year scholarship at The Alvin Ailey American Dance Center that led to working in the theatre. For two years she toured Europe with the musical "Cats" [in English and German] through Switzerland, Austria and Italy, playing the role of "Demeter." She spent a few years singing in an orchestra in Monte Carlo in French, Italian and English and she has sung in various jazz clubs in New York City. She wrote, produced and starred in a one-woman show that had a two-week run at the Grove St. Playhouse in N.Y. and at the Cape May Theatre. Throughout her travels and extensive theatre and film work she has continued to paint. Monica works as an artist by doing commissioned paintings of homes and portraits of children and people in South Jersey and New York.
